Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Interview Surfaces, Calling Out Mean Women Who Equate That With Feminism

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a known feminist who believes in women having rights and being who they are strictly because they are, however, a video has surfaced where she has taken issue with mean women, particularly speaking to Nigerian feminists who she believes are using feminism to escape addressing their mean behavior. She is quoted as stating:

“When I often say to young Nigerian feminists, I say to them, please do not use feminism to justify your wickedness.”

“Because sometimes a woman…so you have some of these young women I’m talking to them and they sound really mean, and I say, “You know what? This isn’t feminism, you’re just really nasty. I know that there are people for whom…sort of my kindness comes as a surprise because I’m a feminist. Therefore, oh you’re kind, and I think, yes because actually feminists are, you know we’re human.”

Chimamanda Adichie is releasing a new book titled Notes on Grief where she discusses the death of her father from 2020 as well as the emotions and psychology that she experienced going through it during the time of a pandemic.
