Prolific Children’s Book Author Patricia C. McKissack Dies at 72

Having written many books that cover African American life and history and having won such awards as the Coretta Scott King Award for many of her books, the Virginia Hamilton Literary Award as well as the PEN/Steven Kroll Award, author Patricia C. McKissack has left this life at the age of 72, reportedly due to cardio respiratory arrest on April 7.  Upon her passing, however, she has left a definite mark on literature.

She was a prolific writer of children’s books and those historical of African American significance, having written many books along with her husband Fredrick who died in 2013.  With over 100 books, she will be remembered for her great contributions to African American literature while bringing to life a variety of black characters for all children to grow with and love.
